a bit of background

I loved to draw as a pre-schooler but it was many years before art was my chief occupation. My first and very brief career was as a secondary art teacher. Two schools in six months! Classrooms of teenagers were not my particular passion. Since then I have had several other careers but always drew or painted in my leisure time.

During my years living interstate I visited the SA School of Art whenever I was back in Adelaide. When I finally settled here I spent time working with art school colleagues. For a couple of years we hired models and worked in each others’ home studios. I loved rigours of life painting and drawing.

In 2008 part-time employment allowed me more time for painting.  In that year, my first great start came when I was shortlisted for the Fleurieu Prize Vistas section.

2009 was busy. In May I had a successful solo show at Gallery M at Marion Cultural Centre, in July another successful show at Brighton’s edge delicatessen and in November a part in a group show at Red Opus Artspace.

By the end of 2009 the sea had become my favourite subject. It offered the chance to depict people at play in familiar locations (very popular in my first solo show), as well as larger more abstract works.

My saltwater series in 2010 at Artistic License North Adelaide featured these more abstract paintings.  Visit the dedicated page to see more.
